St. Moritz Energie supplies the communities of St. Moritz and Celerina with electricity. Our power grid supplies our customers with electricity and connects them to the power plants, which generate electricity at different voltage levels.

Network levels and current flow

The power grid usually encompasses four voltage levels. The higher-level extra-high voltage grid is usually designed for 220,000 to 400,000 volts (400 kV). 110 kV is common in the high-voltage network. In the downstream medium-voltage network, voltage levels of between 1 and 36 kV are common. The low-voltage level for consumers is operated at 400 volts for three-phase alternating current and 230 volts for single-phase alternating current.

In addition to these four voltage levels, there are three transformation levels. We obtain electrical energy from the national distribution grid (level 3) at 60 kV and distribute it in the supply area via two substations and more than 100 transformer stations.

Electricity guaranteed

St. Moritz Energie guarantees a secure electricity supply for the communities of Celerina, St. Moritz and parts of Champfèr.

Our individual customers are connected to more than 100 cable distribution units and 100 transformer stations. This way, power interruptions due to maintenance or failures can be kept to a minimum. The following table provides information about the technical data of the network infrastructure.

The St. Moritz Energie power distribution grid draws electricity from the feed-ins of the higher network level via the Islas and Bad substations. During normal operation, the entire grid can be switched to one substation or the other, ensuring a high level of security of supply. In addition, part of the energy supply is generated directly at the Islas power plant.
